How To Take Control Of Your Life
Do you feel that your life is out of your control? That you have no control over your feelings and emotions? It is a journey to realise how to take control of your life and I’m here to tell you that you have the power to control how you are feeling and that you are the only one that can choose how you feel. It’s time to take control of your life and feel the freedom that you deserve.
“Your thoughts, feelings and reactions are your choice”
It starts with a decision
Make the decision today that you are the only one that can control the way you feel. Often we are surrounded by people and experiences that we feel change the way we feel. We can make the decision to not let outside influences change how we feel inside, this may seem like a hard thing to do but with consistency and practice it is a skill that you can learn.
Create your positivity bubble
Imagine that your body is inside a bubble and only positivity is allowed in, all negativity bounces off the bubble and stays outside your mind. This technique will take practice but will be so worth it once you feel comfortable with it. When people around you say things that are negative imagine them bouncing off the bubble and not coming anywhere near you. If you like to visualise with colours you can imagine the thoughts as colours, for example red for negative and green for positive.
Use this technique daily and build the skill of only allowing positivity in. We do not need to be effected by other peoples negative opinions and we don’t deserve to be. If you want something to take your mind off it when someone is talking negatively to you then allow yourself to be distracted by positive thoughts.
A gallery of positive images – create a gallery of positive images like quotes and poems that make you feel uplifted. Add to this regally as you find more that relate to you.
Playlist of positive songs – put together a playlist of songs that make you feel positive and life your mood. These have to be songs that only bring up positive emotions for you.
Visualise a place that makes you feel happy – in your mind go to a place where you feel free and positive within your own space and comfort.
Talk positively to yourself – allow a positive talk to go on inside your mind. You can talk about your achievements, successes and the positive things happening in your life.
Plan your morning routine
Start your day with positivity habits to get your day started in the right mindset. This is a great way to take control of your life because you are taking control from the second you wake up and making the decision daily that you are in control. Choose your favourite personal development habits and create a morning routine with them. You can make time for this by setting your alarm to wake up earlier or reducing your time spend on habits like social media and TV. There is always time for personal development you just need to decide to commit the time to it.
Personal development habits
Reading – read something positive, either a blog or a book to start the day on a positive note. This is also a great way to learn new things and expand your knowledge on personal development.
Affirmations – create positive affirmations that you repeat to yourself daily. Affirmations are positive statements in the present tense about how you want to feel. A good one for this topic would be “I am in control of my thoughts and feelings.”
Meditation – this is a great way to connect with yourself and feel in control of your thoughts. If you haven’t tried meditation before get started with a guided meditation so you can get used to it.
Visualisation – spend time visualising your dream life in as much detail as you can. You can visualise being in control of your thoughts and life. This habit takes time to get used to especially if you are not a visual person (like me) but it is worth committing the time as it is a great technique to use to change the way you are feeling.
Journaling – spend time writing about your thoughts and how you are feeling. This is a great way to recognise how you are feeling so that you can take control of it. I recommend positive journaling, meaning if you write down all your thoughts that are negative you then turn it into a positive by writing evidence why those thoughts aren’t true or write a lesson that you have learned from the experience.
