How To Improve Your Energy
We’re 2 months into 2019. At the start of January dreams were created, goals were set, resolutions were made…… but for most of us out there, these are already a distant memory. Its hard to know how to improve your energy to achieve these goals and dreams.
Did you know that according to, US News & World, 80% of those who make New Year’s resolutions, give up by February? That’s a crazy amount of people giving up, and some people never even start them!
Why is it that we give up so easily? It could be that it wasn’t something we really wanted to do. But even when we have a huge reason to need to achieve something, why is it that we give up?
The usual scapegoat is willpower, but in reality, we have as much willpower as we believe we have. If we believe we have low willpower then we will give up more easily, because we are constantly telling ourselves that we will give up. We believe we will give up.
Why does our belief in this willpower change?
Have you noticed that when your energy levels are higher, you feel unstoppable, productive, passionate, focussed, confident and have so much more fun? When we feel like this our ‘willpower’ is off the scale! But have you also noticed that, when your energy levels drop off you tend to feel more fear-based emotions like lack, anxiety, confusion, your self-talk is poor and you are exhausted, that ‘willpower’ is completely non-existent!
We all know that energy levels are often reflected in the food that we eat. Perhaps diet is even the area you are trying to change! When we eat nutrient rich foods, our digestive system does all the work and these vital nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream and distributed around the body, where they are used by the cells. In an ideal world this system works perfectly.
However, due to our average diet most of us have a digestive system that is far from perfect. Where even if we do switch to a nutrient rich diet to improve our energy, our digestive system is not set up to cope properly. This means your body will usually start to detox, meaning some pretty uncomfortable symptoms like headaches, irritability and bloating.
How to improve your energy
There is another system in our body as well which allows energy into our body and this is the chakra system. Just like food being our energy source and digestive system being our delivery system, our chakra system delivers our vital life energies into our body.
As our digestive system can be compromised due to eating heavy clogging foods that stop the body being able to absorb properly. The chakra system is affected by our environment, thoughts and emotions. However, we also know the digestive system is affected by our thoughts and emotions, because stress has an impact on in, which can been seen in conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
It’s important to understand that the whole body works together. Our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies all affect each other. To really improve our energy, we really need to take a holistic view of how our body brings in and uses energy, as they all interact.
How we feel affects what we eat, and what we eat affects how we feel, so if you can improve one of these areas then it improves the whole cycle, and the opposite is also true.
To improve your energy, we improve our connection to our energy sources and reduce the stresses that drain our energy, we will able to maintain the energy levels required to maintain high willpower, and achieve those goals and desires.
Things you can do right now
Improve your diet
Improve your energy by improving your diet, this is an obvious one and may even be what it is that you are trying to achieve, but for now consider this:
- Eat less processed meals and use more organic foods. Pesticides and preservatives can play havoc with your nervous system so will be a stress on the body.
- Recognise the foods that give you energy, and the ones that consume your energy and make you sleepy.
- Eat more of the foods that give you energy.
Improve your relationships
Improve your energy by improving your relationships, including your relationship with yourself. In fact, especially your relationship with yourself! Our relationships have the biggest impact on how we feel and what we think. We have relationships in our personal lives and work lives and all relationships should be considered.
- Be kind to yourself, as kind as you would be to a child or a friend
- Play often, playing lights you up, makes you laugh and smile. Have you noticed how alive you feel when you play?
- Trust yourself, no-one knows you better than you do, no-one else knows what is best for you.
- Get to know yourself more, journaling can be good for this, discover what you value and what makes you tick, write a list of things you love to do and do them often.
- Set healthy boundaries, with yourself and others. Say no when you mean no, and yes when you mean yes.
- Spend more time with the people that build you up and less with the ones who put you down.
Process your traumas and emotions
Improve your energy by processing traumas and emotions. These past traumas and emotions are often from childhood when we were too young to understand and process them at the time, and therefore they were stored away to protect you as a child. These are responsible for your fears and limiting beliefs.
- Journaling is a fantastic tool that I often use for processing things as they come up.
- Write a list of your fears around achieving what you want to achieve, and look at them one at a time.
- Determine the origin of these fears.
- Process them by looking at how they affect your life and your beliefs about yourself. Find the truth in them.
- Processing them allows you to be able to release them, they just need a voice and wish to be heard.
Improve your environment
- Spend more time in nature, away from pollution, radiation, high emf’s
- Balance and maintain your chakra system so your body can draw in vital life energies and protect you from negative energies.
- Switch off devices before bedtime and create a peaceful environment so you sleep better.
The best way to achieve any goal is to focus on doing what makes you feel good
Your thoughts and feelings are key to improving your energy levels. If you don’t feel good then you have no chance of being able to achieve your goals. It will always be a battle and consume way more energy than is necessary.
I would start with self-care and self-love activities. How we think and feel affects what we choose to eat as well as the quality of the energy drawn in through the chakra system.
Most of these tips are things that you can easily do for yourself, and self-care is my number one tip to improve your energy. However, if you are struggling, especially with releasing traumas or emotions, then seek help. It can be difficult to detach from your own fears and limiting beliefs. Never be ashamed to ask for help.
