I believe we massively underestimate the power of goals, they are the key to achieving anything you want to. You can set goals for anything you want to – personal development, weight, career, family, friends, basically any subject.
Goals go in partnership with your dreams, if you have a dream to be confident, you need to set goals to achieve this. To break down the dream into smaller chunks that are achievable and set actions in place to achieve your goals. So for example, you could have a goal to meet your friends once a week, to meet new people, to talk to new people. All these smaller goals will contribute to your dream of being more confident and I’m sure will improve your chances of success in achieving the dream.
So how do you set goals? I like to use the SMART process:
When setting goals it is important to think about why you want to achieve these, to have an emotional attachment to your reason why will have a huge effect on your ability to achieve the goal. It will be what keeps you motivated on the days you need it.
When setting goals I also put in place actions I need to take in order to achieve them, so I break down the goals into even smaller, manageable chunks. Then I work on those actions daily knowing that they are bringing me closer to my end goal.
Another thing I love to do is visualise the outcome – how will you feel when you’ve achieved your goal and you are full of confidence? When you’re no longer shy around new people? Really imagine how you’ll feel and keep that with you throughout your journey to achieving your goal. Know that you will achieve your goal and believe in yourself, you can do anything if you really want to.
