What would you currently say about your level of confidence? Give it a score out of 10, 0 being no confidence at all and 10 being full of confidence. Write it down somewhere with today’s date so you know where you started. I’m going to talk you through how to build confidence so you can live your life the way you want to.
Take a few minutes to think about what your life would be like if you had unlimited confidence. What would you do? How would you feel?
My first step for everything is always visualisation. If you can visualise it and believe it, I truly believe I will come true. It is important to visualise yourself in full confidence so you start believing that it can happen. This may also help you understand the action you need to take to achieve the results you want. For example if your visualisation if full confidence includes being successful in a different career you will need to work on how you can get into that career and have the success you want.
Another example if you are looking for confidence in a more personal way, could be confidence in social situations. If your visualisation is you at an event with friends that you couldn’t imagine going to now it’s time to start talking steps to getting yourself to that place. You could start with meeting one friend in a cafe or a park. Then increase the amount of friends and the place or event you’re going to until you reach that stage you saw in your visualisation. If you think you’d prefer to go straight in to the main activity without the gradual stages then go for that. It will work for you whichever way you feel is best.

Now that you’ve visualised what you want it’s time to take action on the steps you’ve decided. I recommend you write them down so you can look at them every day. Start with the bigger, long-term goals that you want to achieve. From these, you can then create your smaller action steps to take daily to achieve your bigger goal. For example, if you wanted to improve confidence in social situations your smaller goals would be going to a cafe, a restaurant, a park etc. Then moving onto a bigger or busier event until you are confident in any social situation.
I highly recommend setting deadlines for all goals, big or small. This will help hold you accountable to them if they are written down somewhere with a deadline. I like to use Asana for all my daily tasks, it’s a free app where you can create several projects and to do lists and check them off as you go.
Share what you are doing with a friend or family member and ask for their support. Ask them to check in with you regularly to see how you are doing – this will also help hold you accountable and help you to get the best results. I highly recommend reading the book – Confidence by Katie Piper. It is the book I read when my confidence was at it’s lowest. It is full of actionable advice to get you on track to a life of confidence.
Now that you have your list of goals to take action on you will start to expand your comfort zone naturally by completing these. It’s also a good idea to continue to push yourself every day in other ways too and this will also contribute to building your confidence. Something as simple as trying a new food or walking to work instead of driving will all help to build a confident you.
