Book Review – Confidence by Katie Piper
I first read this book when my confidence was at its lowest. Previously, I had heard of Katie Piper and how inspiring she was and when I came across the book by chance I decided to read it. I was already reading personal development books daily and a book to improve my confidence sounded perfect.
Soon, I got completely hooked on the book, you know when you come across a book that you love and you can’t put it down – that was me. I only schedule reading into my morning but I was reading this book every opportunity I got. It was the quickest I’ve ever read a book and I’m usually a slow reader. It was so easy to read, simple yet so effective.
What I loved most
It contains loads of exercises to try. I’ve added all of them into my life and it’s made a huge difference. Friends that have known me through my journey of lack of confidence and anxiety say that I am now unrecognisable from the girl I used to be – in a good way. My confidence has grown massively, I am no longer nervous and uncomfortable in social situations and around new people.
I have belief in myself, my appearance, my personality and my abilities. I know that I am here for a reason, I am confident to follow my passion, face my fears and overcome any obstacles or challenges on the way. The massive boost in my confidence has completely transformed my life.

How the book helped me get a job
Since reading this book I applied for a new job, something I’d never dreamed of doing. I had been in the same job for 4 years – I loved it but I could no longer progress there. Feeling too afraid of change to apply for anything else.
I had been using the techniques of the book and my confidence was beginning to build. I had the confidence to apply for a job that I really wanted. When I found out I had an interview for this job I was so excited. I was really surprised as situations like this used to make me feel so nervous that I felt sick.
The day of the interview came and I still wasn’t nervous. I walked confidently into the building having full belief in myself. I was taken into a room to wait to be called. It was a group interview and I was the first there. As the other 3 people walked into the room and sat down I said hello to them all and got into conversations with them all about our previous jobs and experience. I felt so different to how I’d ever felt before, taking to strangers so confidently is something I had never done without feeling sick.
It was a complete success. I don’t think it could have possibly gone better. Later I found out that I got the job. Normally this would make me nervous – not knowing my new role, having to meet new people and make friends again. I continued with the techniques in the book and visualised myself in the role.
My first day
The first day of my new job came and I was slightly nervous but more excited than anything. My sister already worked in the same school but she was away for the first week of the year so I had to go in alone, meaning driving to work alone and making new friends. I walked in feeling confident, I talked to everyone I saw and made new friends instantly. I was just so amazed at how much my confidence had grown.
The reason I shared that story is to show you just how much my confidence has grown since reading this book. Before reading it I wouldn’t have even applied for the job, let alone had a successful interview and made new friends. It’s just amazing how much one book can help transform your life like that.
